Thailand Coup-Pray for :

The following was posted on American Baptist Church's International Ministries website:

UNCERTAIN SITUATION IN THAILAND

In the early afternoon of Tuesday, September 19, Stan Murray received a phone call in his office in Valley Forge, PA, from missionaries of International Ministries (IM) serving in Thailand, telling him that a coup d’etat was under way in their nation. Murray is IM’s area director for Southeast Asia and Japan and oversees IM’s mission activities and relationships in Thailand. Murray reported that the situation on the ground in Thailand appeared to be calm during the first hours of the coup, and that missionaries were safe. Murray and the IM crisis management team will be in close communication with missionaries and partner church leaders as the situation develops.

The coup began when General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin, the head of the Thai army, declared martial law, suspended the constitution and surrounded government buildings in Bangkok with tanks. The army has declared its loyalty to Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, at the same time that it seeks to depose the nation’s Prime Minister, Taksin Shinawatra. Shinawatra was in New York at the United Nations session at the time of the coup.
IM has a long relationship with the people of Thailand. IM’s work in the country, then known as Siam, began in 1833, when pioneer missionaries John Taylor Jones and his wife Sarah first arrived in Bangkok.

Charles Jones, IM’s acting executive director, called for prayer on behalf of the people of Thailand, its leaders and our many sisters and brothers throughout the country.

More Poems!

The Rainbow Of Promise

Noah preached the Word, Just like God had ask.
Preaching in Noah's day wasn't an easy task.
There were many wicked sinners, just like in our day,
they won't listen, they're going the wrong way.

While Noah was preaching, he built a big boat,

he was made fun of because there was no water to make it float.
It rained forty days and nights,
the dark murky waters reached their heights.

All the people drowned, but Noah and his family,

God had spared their lives it was plain to see.
There's more to this story than I have room to tell.
You can find it in your Bible, you can read it well.

I want to talk about the rainbow you've seen up in the sky,
when you saw it, did you ever wonder why.
God made a promise, "amen,"
that no flood would ever destroy all flesh again.

God said I will look upon the bow and remember what I said,
It had to greive His heart to see those people dead.
Noah's family replenished the earth again.
It didn't take long before they began to sin.

Have you had problems that you can't seem to solve,
others don't want to help, they don't want to get involved.
Do you see the rainbow shining in the sky,
it's somewhere up there, way up high.

God gives us a promise that He'll never leave or forsake us.
Put your hope in Him and your trust.
You have a promise from the faithful Holy one,
That's why God sent us, His only begotten Son.

Final Decision

Day by day the time slides by,
And we all have decisions to make,
Life's road is far from perfect,
Decisions may bring heartache.

However young or old we may be,
Our world is never free,
From the toils and woes of progress,
As right from wrong we try to see.

How do we find the right answers,
To all the questions we raise?,
It may not sound so simple,
As we try to shift our gaze.

When we start leaving self behind,
And call upon our Father above,
Soon we will begin to understand,
What Christians call 'real love'.

He has all the right answers,
As we get to know Him day by day,
And our decisions will be easier,
As He leads through mirey clay

How sweet will be the morning,
When we finally understand,
God is our gracious Master,
Who holds us in His loving hand.

And as the days slip slowly by,
And the years roll steadily away,
Our decisions will be ever better,
Because we took the time to pray.

When we give it all to the Lord,
We are finally set free,
We've made our final decision,
Now we can live peacefully!

Poems I thought the church might enjoy! :)

The Name Jesus

Only one name in all the world,
Can bring you joy and peace.
The name that's for all peoples,
From the greatest to the least.

No matter your nationality,
Or the color of your skin.
It's the only name, on which you call,
That can forgive you all your sins.

It matters not how rich you are,
Or if you're barely getting by.
The precious name on which you call,
Will lift your spirits high.

The name will remove your every doubt,
And erase your many fears.
The marvelous name has promised,
To wipe away your tears.

If you are a prisoner of darkness,
Or a captive of any stronghold.
The name can give you freedom,
By breaking the enemy's hold.

The one true God created all,
And He loves each one the same.
He desires to draw you to Him,
But you must call upon the name.

The name above all other names,
Is Jesus Christ, the Lord.
He fulfilled the plan of salvation,
With eternal life as your reward.

But the Sovereign God is Holy.
And all were born into sin.
In order to enter His presence,
Only the Son can usher you in.

For Jesus is the only name,
You can call on for salvation.
God does not want to lose you,
So respond to His invitation.

Just call on the name of Jesus.
Ask Him to change your heart.
He's willing to forgive your every sin.
And He offers a fresh new start.

All your burdens of guilt and sin,
He endured upon the cross.
If not for His loving sacrifice,
You'd still be condemned and lost.

The blood He shed redeemed you.
His righteousness covers your sins.
When God looks at you, He sees His Son,
For His radiance shines from within.

Proclaim the name of Jesus,
You should never be ashamed.
For of all the names throughout the world,
It's the "name" above all names.

View of the Cross

In the stillness of the night as I lay upon my bed
In my mind I viewed the Cross-
Hanging there weak and beaten was my Savior

Nails driven into His hands and feet
His side pierced and a crown of thorns upon His head
His back with marks of His beatings

Realizing that by those stripes we are healed
Healing for my heart, mind, soul, body and spirit
Knowing that He hung there granting me forgiveness

Love glowing from His eyes as softly He spoke
"My child I have done this for you that where I go you may come also
I am the Light, the Truth, and the Way. No man cometh unto the Father but by me
Come unto me and I will give you rest."

The plan of salvation completed
His purpose in life fulfilled
I bowed before the Cross of Calvary

Yet in the weakness of His torture He embraced me
Forgiving me, engulfing me with His love
Asking that I walk in His light as He shines it before me

I turned to walk away but I glanced back and He hung there no longer
I walked on coming across His borrowed tomb
The stone had been rolled back

The tomb empty yet His presence surrounded me
As His spirit hovered over my being
Looking into the heavens softly He spoke

"For I go to prepare a place for you.
"My task was before me to serve Him daily
And all He was asking that I gently place my hands in His hands and to serve Him

His presence goes with me
My cup runneth over
For the joy of the Lord is my strength

Upon my journey often I glance back, seeing only His footprints
For He picked me up carrying me over the perplexities that life often renders
His love and strength flowing through my body and spirit

As He leads me beside those still waters of life
I'm standing in His presence as He leads me gently
On to greater depths and heights

Knowing I shall dwell in His house forever
Throughout eternity
His only requirement is "Follow Me."

LYNN FAMILY UPDATE

Thank you to all who have asked - yes, Alani is doing great. Isn't it remarkable how those little ones can bounce right back! She is on medication to prevent seizures, and so far they have not been able to locate a "reason" for them. This most recent activity was definitely triggered by the virus and resulting temperature spikes she had that week. Russell was able to come home for a week, and that helped everyone's recovery. No exact date yet on his permanent move - we just keep praying it will be soon.

As a matter of fact, both Alani and little sister Rebekah are scheduled to participate in the Boone County Fair Baby Contest on Thursday night, July 27th beginning at 6:30pm. This carries on a family tradition as their Daddy, Russell, placed fifth at his appearance in 1981! We took a sneak preview at the fair on Tuesday night and had a nice visit with Ruth and Bill Martin at the gopsel sing. Congrats to all our 4-H ers in their entries too!

Dale and I both appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers. We really do intend to get back into the swing of things this fall. We have missed everyone and know that we have missed out on a lot of the activities there. We do keep in touch - we still read the Banner and I check the Bethel Blogs, along with emails to Pastors David and Bonnie! Also thanks to my Secret Pal who so kindly remembers me on a regular basis. PS: The girlies loved the "toy" bag items you so thoughtfully provided.

Love to all, your friend in Christ! Joetta

The Bethel Blog

I'm so glad to be home. Thanks to everyone who came to greet us at 2 in the morning Monday. It was sooo good to see familiar faces after 10 days of only seeing those traveling w/ us. I'm glad to be back, but I'd go back tomorrow if they asked me and said money was no issue. I truly would. I've met so many great people this past week. The interpreters are like brothers to me. Our whole group is a lot closer, too. Alex, Liz, and Madison are like my brother and sisters now. We learned a lot this week. I can't wait till the band comes in August. They are great. It will be a treat to hear them. And you'll get to meet some of the friends we made down there. Thank you for all your prayers these past 10 days. They are greatly appreciated and we all felt them while we were working or sitting down to dinner, or wherever we were.
